EMERGENCY PROCEDURE


 

If your foster dog has an accident, experiences a severe illness or runs away you will need to contact the rescue leaders for assistance and direction immediately.

In the event of an emergency Beth Duncan is the contact on duty

If the dog is not breathing, bleeding profusely, has a severe injury (i.e. bloating, broken leg, punctured eye, hit by car)

 APPLY FIRST AID & HEAD TO THE CLOSEST VET OR, IF AFTER BUSINESS HOURS, GO TO EMERGENCY VET IMMEDIATELY

For other injuries or illness:

If the dog is ill ( i.e. excessive vomiting, diarrhea, coughing) or not severely injured (i.e. bite wound, limping) Notify the rescue emergency contact person(s) for guidance on next steps.  All non emergency vetting will be handled by Sue Brown

 

If you're foster goes missing or escapes -  Remain calm  

  • Notify the rescue emergency contact person(s) The emergency contact name and contact info will be listed in a pinned post at the top of the Sadie’s Volunteer Facebook page
  • Have someone stay at dog’s home while others go looking.  Most of the time, the dog will circle back home
  • Bring treats, cell phone, flash lights, leash when going out to look for the dog
  • Exchange cell phone numbers with everyone who is helping you look
  • Do not chase the dog, if the dog is spotted, call the dog and walk away from him to get him to follow you.  Offer treats.
