Your Responsibilties as a FosterJulie with Beagle

Fostering has its up's and down's. Sometimes its really easy and sometimes it's tough.
We never know a dogs's past story but we're here to help now.
In Julie's words "If it doesn't hurt a little, you're not doing it right my friend".

Fostering is all about opening your home, providing love, training when needed and helping your new 4 legged friend in this chapter of his/her life.
We put together a quick list of what we need from you as an active foster home for Sadie's.  By following these guidelines, you help the organization save more dogs.

You will be assigned a Mentor to help guide you every step of the way and be your support system.

The First Week

Once you learn his/her personality, write a good description for your fosters online profile and send it to your mentor.  Your mentor will ensure it is proof read, added to the website and uploaded to Petfinder.

Take photos, send to mentor or upload to Facebook and tag Facebook Coordinator.  Fresh, clear photo’s of your foster will help his/her chances of being adopted quicker.  When your foster is at his/her calmest, plus good lighting are some of the best ways to capture great pics.

Notify mentor immediately if you suspect any health or behavior issues

Please keep a collar on your dog at all times with a Sadie’s ID Tag (and any additional tags the dog may have like Rabies) - If you need a tag contact your mentor asap.

Vetting

Take dog to approved vet as required and instructed by your mentor or other leader

Give medication as instructed by vet or mentor, document dates meds are given & notify mentor

If your dog receives a rabies vaccination, immediately upon pick up at the vets office place the rabies tag on the dog’s collar. Do NOT leave the office without it!

Notify mentor if any follow up treatment is required or additional appointments made

Do not pay vet anything. Bill is charged to the rescue.

1) Get vet records and any documentation from the visit, from the vets office.
2) scan and email or give original vet documents to mentor.

If in any instance you cannot make the appt, your mentor immediately.  If you need help with transportation, we have a great crew that will help you out!!!

Adoption Applications

You will be assigned adoption applications as they come in for your foster dog.  Clicking the “MyRescue” link provides a quick shortcut to your foster’s data including apps.

Contact the applicant & ask additional questions if necessary.  We find that by allowing them to do the talking, will help you determine if it’s a possible match for your foster.

If you feel they may be a good fit for yor foster dog.
Let the applicant know if they are being considered and that you will be calling their vet & references.

Notify your mentor if you feel they are not a good fit & they will follow up accordingly.
Work with your mentor on this until you know what to ask and how the process flows.

Schedule home visit with the applicant adn your mentor ask for assistance as required.

Update application status and make comments of all contact made with applicant and action planned and each step along the way on your dogs web page.  Ask your mentor for assistance.

At Adoption Time:

Print vetting files, journal and include in the adoption folder.  Be sure there is no personal info on the files or prices on the vet documents. If there is, blacken it out with a sharpie.
