Meet Chico! The man with mega-esophagus. This 2 year old mix is all legs! Chico is a fun-loving pup who loves to play for hours and then snuggle up on the couch with his humans. He plays well with other dogs that have the same energy level as him once he has gotten to know them. He would also do really well as the only dog in the house. Chico is doing really well with crate training, which is fantastic because he is required to be crated when not being supervised. Those legs also mean he can jump 5 foot fences, so a 6 foot fence is required to adopt this sweet guy. Chico is also working on his basic training using his favorite snack, Gerber Baby Puffs! Chico is high energy, and still very much a puppy, so older children would be the best fit for him. He also loves cats a little too much, so we are suggesting a home without them.
About Chico’s Disability: Chico eats all of his meals in a special chair made just for him (this will go with him to his adoptive home). He does this after he takes his medicine, once in the morning and once before dinner. After he eats, he then needs to stay upright in his chair for around 15 minutes to let his food work its way to his belly safely. He cannot have typical treats but there are many alternatives that he loves! Other than mealtime, he is a totally normal pup! If you are interested in adopting Chico, please research Mega-esophagus and discuss it with your vet.
Please keep in mind there are many factors to consider when choosing the right match for a puppy, so an application cannot guarantee adoption. Nor do we work on a "first come first served" basis, but rather strive to find the best match for the personality of each dog. At the time of adoption, the puppy will be current on vaccinations and deworming. Please consider the time and effort it takes to raise a puppy. Foster puppies are typically NOT potty trained. They require time and patience from their adopter. If you are NOT serious about adoption and have not discussed the possibility of adding a new canine to your home with ALL live-in family members, DO NOT APPLY. Volunteers spend countless hours reviewing applications, calling references, and scheduling home visits. Please be sure you are ready to add a puppy to your home BEFORE applying.
