Meet beautiful Basa!!  Basa is around 2 years old and is a Great Pyrenees.  Basa is neutered, up to date with vaccinations and microchipped.  He does only have 3 legs due to having been shot in Texas where he came from, but gets around farily well.  He is good with other dogs (all sizes), most cats (chases 1 cat out of 3 in the foster home), horses, cows and has some exposure to sheep and goats, but is NOT guarding any livestock at this time.  He would need extensive training to be considered a LGD.  He does bark sometimes at some of the animals but once someone acknowleges him and/or the other animal he quiets down.  He is not a typical dog that Sadie's adopts out as he is special guy who needs a very special home.   Basa is looking for country life, he is not suited for city living due to his barking, which anyone who has experience with GP know that is VERY typical of his breed.  He alerts his foster to everything that is going on around his foster's house 24/7.  He loves to be outside, and will try to escape the indoors to get outside.  His forever home must have a safe, secure way to keep Basa safely in his yard and access to a well protected shelter.   Basa LOVES the snow and the cold temperatures and will lay out in a snow storm, but he needs to have access to shelter 24/7.  Basa is not a high energy guy but does require some exercise and mental stimulation. He loves to walk in the woods and needs to have a walk daily.  He most likely is not a dog that can be walked off leash as he does have a tendency to wander, another GP trait.  He loves Bully sticks and works a snuffle mat like a pro.  Basa walks well on a long lead (when he wants to) and enjoys playing with his canine foster brother.  Walking a GP is sometimes challenging as they often just lay down when they don't want to walk anymore, Basa displays this behavior during almost every walk.  His foster gives him a short break and then he willl get up and continue on.  It most commonly happens when heading back to the house towards the end of the walk.   Basa is a social dog that likes to be around his people but will chose to be outside rather than laying on the couch.  He was hand fed after being brought into rescue and has shown no signs of any resource guarding, another breed trait.  Basa loves the water and loves to lay in the shallow water and watch the day go by.  He has not tried to swim yet, but does wear a life jacket when around deep water.  Basa rides well in the car.  He will require FREQUENT brushing and fur care.  He has been to a groomer and does well, but does need a few breaks as standing on 3 legs for long periods of time tires him out.  Shaving a GP is NOT recommended and he should only be groomed by a groomer that has experience with GP.  Basa sheds A LOT, like A LOT A LOT.  He will only walk across surfaces that he feels safe on due to his large size on only having 3 legs. The foster home has used thin yoga mats throughout their un-carpeted house and he manuvers throughout the house sucessfully.  Basa was heartworm postivie and finished his treatment in April 2021, he was tested in May 2021 and was negative for heartworm larvae, which is the first step to being heartworm free.    As with all of our adopted dogs, a heartworm test is REQUIRED 6 months after adoption.  Basa will be due for his heartworm test in October 2021 and will be required to be tested at our vet office in Kenmore.  Basa MUST be on a monthly heartworm prevention for the rest of his life, he can not skip any months.

Basa is a special dog and he is looking for a special home, Sadie's will be very particular when finding him his forever home.

Please keep in mind there are many factors to consider when choosing the right match for a dog, so an application cannot guarantee adoption. Nor do we work on a "first come first served" basis, but rather strive to find the best match for the personality of each dog.

As part of our adoption process, references both personal and veterinarian will be checked. Sadie's also requires a home visit before we adopt any of our dogs out; therefore we only adopt to our local WNY region.  Please only apply if you are serious about adopting as placing each foster dog in the best home takes time and effort by our volunteers.
